Overactive facial expression muscles can cause temporary or permanent wrinkles around the eyes, mouth and forehead. BOTOX® or DYSPORT® (injectables of botulinum toxin) can be used to soften expression. The effect usually persists for 3 to 6 months.

Small depressions or lines in passive areas of the face, particularly the lip-cheek crease (nasolabial fold), can be softened with the use of injectable fillers. Most commonly used are hyaluronic acids such as Juvéderm® or Restylane®. Hyaluronic acids occur naturally in the skin to retain moisture and texture. Improvement lasts anywhere from several months to a year.
