Liposuction (Suction-Assisted Lipoplasty) Dallas

One of the most popular procedures to be developed in the last 20 years is body contouring by liposuction.

We all must have fat in our bodies to maintain proper metabolism. This fat is stored in small individual fat cells (adipocytes). In some body types, the distribution of body fat may be excessive under the skin around the abdomen and thighs. Currently, liposuction is the most effective method to remove these excessive accumulations of fat cells, resulting in a new distribution of the body’s fat.

The basis for liposuction is a strong vacuum which removes soft fat. In some methods, ultrasound or laser heat may be used to first dissolve the fat.

Liposuction is not a substitute for weight reduction. In fact, in patients with excess total body fat, liposuction will produce only a temporary figure improvement.

Successful liposuction also requires that the patient’s overlying skin have enough recoil (elasticity) to take up the slack produced by fat removal. Contrary to many marketing claims, no machine will safely and effectively tighten loose skin. Nor will any machine significantly improve skin dimpling (“cellulite”).

The procedure can be performed in our surgicenter. Normal activities can be resumed in 2-5 days wearing a compression garment under clothes.
